Champion Sports Outside Plastic Shield Professional Model Chest Protector Review

I have been an umpire for 36 years and have for the past 25 years of that time umpired 14 and up with an ocassional 12 year old.I have used the West Vest for the last 11 years and feel very confident with it and rate it A+.The Champion Chest Protector is comparible in design with a lower profile.It is more comfortable than the West Vest but does not limit the feel of the impact of a baseball coming off the bat of an 18 year old.I could still feel some discomfort.I will stop short of not recommending it to anyone because it is a good protector.At my age maybe I am more sensitive than someone who is 24.I have not given up on it and will continue to use it for 12U.I will recommend it to young umpires just starting to do the plate in 9s, 10s, 11s, and even 12s.I will try using it sometimes and maybe I will adjust.I would give the Champion Protector a B- rating.
