Product Description:
Designed by two-time U.S. Olympian Jame Carney, the Van Dessel Drag Strip Courage is a true pro-level track racing bike. Carney customized the bike's geometry with an up-sloping stem and drop bars--helping it excel in sprint events--and an alternate down-sloping stem with aero bars for time trial events.
The bike's Dedaccial oversized down tube and chain stays, meanwhile, are both tapered at the bottom bracket for maximum stiffness, while the oversized aero seat tube and wheel cutout minimize wind drag. The result is a sleek, lightweight bike that's great whether speeding around the track or cruising down a country highway. Other features include rear dropouts with replaceable stainless-steel plates for durability, a full carbon track-specific aero fork, an FSA Carbon Track crank, an OS170 stem, a Deda Pista handlebar, a Cane Creek Volos track wheel set, and Hutchinson Fusion Comp tires. Need a bike that's Olympic-ready right out of the box? Look no further than the Drag Strip Courage.

Finding the Right Bike
To really enjoy cycling, it's important to find a bicycle that works for you. Here are some things to keep in mind when you're in the market for a new bike:
The Right Ride
In general, bikes are broken down into three major categories:

Road and Racing Bikes--As a general rule, road and racing are built for speed and longer distances on paved surfaces. Thinner tires, lightweight 29-inch (700c) wheels and drop bars that allow for a more aerodynamic position are the norm. Most road bikes, regardless of price, offer many gears for tackling both hilly and flat terrain.
Mountain Bikes--With their larger tires, hill-friendly gearing and upright position, mountain bikes are very popular for all types of riding, both on pavement and off. Mountain bikes that are designed specifically for rugged trail use typically feature a suspension fork. Some may have rear suspension, as well. A quick change of the tires on any mountain bike--even one that you use regularly on trails--adds to its versatility and makes it a worthy street machine.
Comfort/Cruiser Bikes--For tooling around on bike paths, light trails, or for cruising a quiet beach-side lane, comfort/cruiser bikes are the ticket. With a super-relaxed riding position, padded seats, and limited or no gearing, these bikes are made for enjoying the scenery and having fun with the family.

The Right Price
A bike's price boils down to three essentials: frame materials, bike weight, and component quality and durability.

Entry-level--You'll find a wide range of comfort and cruiser bikes in this category, as well as some lower-end mountain bikes and road bikes. Most will have steel frames and components that are designed to last for several years with frequent use.
Mid-range--Bikes in this range may feature a lighter aluminum frame with mid-range components that keep performing after miles of use. If you're looking for a quality bike that is relatively lightweight and will stand up to abuse, this is the "sweet spot." Most serious commuter and touring bikes fall into this category, as do mid-range mountain bikes with a decent front suspension.
High-end--Racers and serious enthusiasts who expect lightweight, high-performance components will want to stick to this category. For road bikes, exotic frame materials (carbon fiber, titanium) and ultra-lightweight components can add thousands to the price tag. Mountain bikes in this class often feature advanced front and rear suspension technology, as well as components designed to handle lots of rugged trail action.

The Right Size
Fit is crucial for comfort, control, and proper power and endurance on a bike. Here are some basic bike fit tips:

Stand-over Height--To find out if a bike's overall height fits your body, measure your inseam. Next, determine how much clearance you'll need between your crotch and the top tube of the bike. For a mountain bike, you'll want three to five inches of clearance. A road bike should offer between one and two inches of clearance, while a commuter bike should have two to four inches. Compare the stand-over height for a given bike to your measurements (inseam + clearance) to determine the right bike height.
Top Tube Length--You can measure your torso to get a good estimate of proper top tube length. First, make a fist and extend your arm. Measure from the center of your fist to the end of your collarbone (the part that intersects your shoulder). Next, measure your torso by placing a book against your crotch with the spine facing up. Measure from the spine to the bottom of your throat (the spot between your collarbones). Finally, add the two measurements (arm length + torso length), divide the number in half and subtract six inches. This is your approximate top tube length. Compare this number to a bike's posted top tube length. You can allow for about two inches longer or shorter, as most bikes can be adjusted via stem length/height and saddle fore/aft position to make fine adjustments to the fit.
Bikes for Women--Proportionally, women tend to have a shorter torso and longer legs than men. Bike makers design women's bikes that offer a shorter top tube and many comfort/cruiser bikes built for women may also provide more stand-over clearance.

The Right Accessories
When you make a bike purchase, don't forget these crucial add-ons:

    Helmet (this is a must!)
    Seat pack
    Lock
Hydration pack, or water bottles and bottle cages
    Spare tubes
    Portable bike pump
    Gloves

#2680C Pelican HeadsUp Recoil LED Flashlight Review

#2680C Pelican HeadsUp Recoil LED FlashlightI did a lot of research to pick this item.
The battery compartment problem from previous review is solved.
The best merit of this torch is its amphibious ability.
My first trial is snorkeling, I put it on my neck, and it's weight is not a problem.
Well, I'm going to camping in Yosemite this coming Labour Day weekend, will see its performance then.
Maybe I'm use to carry heavy gear, its head band and weight 'on land' doesn't bother me much.
** I am returning it. Seems like the battery compartment contact problem is still there. After first trial, the lamp didn't work. Now, I have no headlamp to camping... lame@but I can't change the rating.

Carmichael Training Systems CTS Train Right Race Simulation DVD. Review

Carmichael Training Systems CTS Train Right Race Simulation DVD.I have used the CTS Time Trial and Climbing DVDs as well (both are excellent). For the Race Simulation, CTS does their best to simulate an actual race including chasing breakaways down and hill climbs with some power intervals thrown in.They throw in video of actual breakaways, hill climbs from the Tour and some of Lance naturally. It does help to see actual riders that we are "chasing." They finish with an ever faster pace and sprint to the end (in big gears). It is a very challenging workout and works your quads, glutes and aerobic system very well.

B-Square Professional Gunsmith Screwdriver Set Review

B-Square Professional Gunsmith Screwdriver SetAnother reviewer didn't like this set.Judging from his comment, he didn't understand that the blade of the screwdriver has to be an exact fit for the screw on a firearm. These blades are the correct shape - no taper at the business end - and there's enough variety to fit many firearms screws. But, a pro gunsmith has perhaps 75 - 100 drivers to ensure a perfect fit for every fastener, and this set has a couple dozen. And a pro spends about $300 for just screwdrivers. You do get what you pay for and this set is a terrific bargain.Very well built, well packaged, I have one in my shooting bag and one in my gunroom.

Park Tool Professional Wheel Truing Stand - TS-2 One Color, One Size Review

Park Tool Professional Wheel Truing Stand - TS-2 One Color, One SizeWay back when, when I worked as a bike mechanic, this is the stand I used. You can dial in a pro wheel with it and turn around and do a kid's bike.It hasn't changed a bit in years. It is solid as a rock, simple, and easy to use ... assuming you know your way around a wheel, that is!It's self-centering (and accurate and fully adjustable), and the calipers will not jam or gouge. It is definitely the US shop standard stand.

Although this can be used in a vice, that wouldn't be my first choice, first and foremost because it will probably result in the stand being at an inconvenient height.Do yourself a favor and permanently mount it if you have the bench space.

Very solid, heavy steel, and the chrome plating is up to commercial needs. This stand will last for many decades in a shop and outlive you if used at home. If you are serious enough to do your own wheels at home, skip Park's home wheel truing stand and buy this one.

Brooks Heritage Saddles Team Pro Saddle - Men's Review

Brooks Heritage Saddles Team Pro Saddle - Men'sThis saddle is a pretty narrow saddle (260 x 160mm), so if you are a recreational rider who mostly "sits" on your saddle, or rides an upright bike such as a mountain bike or a 3-speed, the B-17 which is both longer and wider (280 x 170mm) and which is brooks's most comfortable saddle without springs, is a better choice.

This saddle looks awesome, and has been in production for at least 70 years. The quality is superbe and the leather is much thicker than cheaper knockoff saddles. With proper care this saddle will last at least 30 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes second. This model was used on just about every racing bicycle in the 1950-1980 era.

When riding on bumps, you have to tighten your hamstring muscles and take up the shocks in your knees with a Team Pro saddle. The saddle won't absorb shocks or vibrations for you.If you are not accustomed to "standing" (so 2/3rds of your weight is on your legs, not your bum) on rough pavement, you will find this saddle unacceptable. When I take mine on 50-miles rides, I sometimes come home with a numb pelvic bone.

On the plus side, the saddle is narrow, is chamfered, and the leather is very slick, so you are unlikely to get chafe marks when riding all day long at high (110-120 rpm) cadence.
