Vivitar 7 x 50 Binoculars Review

Purchased because of very low price and 7x50 spec. I didn't expect great quality at this price, but did expect them to be useable. First one produced double vision. Took it back to Walgreens for another. The 2nd one has single vision but focus was so poor that I couldn't read a small distant sign that was absolutely clear with my other brand (low cost) 7x50.

Vivitar should be ashamed of themselves for selling such low grade trash. If you are tempted to buy these, go to a store where you can test a few and pick the best one.

Streamlight 14003 Sidewinder Green LED Flashlight, Green Review

I give it 4 stars vice 5 due to white light not bright enough for target ID. But that enhances battery life, which may be more important in a peacetime survival situation.

Readily available at $50 +/- $5. Ingenious little widget. Best used for signalling to somebody else where you are, identifying yourself, reading maps or documents, and picking your way along a trail when a white light is OK. White light is way too dim for use in target I.D. or aiming.

That said, this is gonna be my carry light 24/7. When I sack out it is gonna be within reach, set on red, so I can use it to take a leak without stepping on the dog or falling in a hole. Awake it will be set on white, helping me find stuff that rolls under the car or is behind the shoes in the closet or is making funny noises under the hood of my car.

The Sidewinder can NOT be left on "HIGH." Any time it is turned OFF, it resets to LOW. Certainly a good idea for hostile environments. If you hold down the ON/OFF button, it will cycle Low-Med-Med High-High ... and then back down, back up, down, etc. Entertaining for my grandchildren, but useless in a hostile environment. There is plenty of time to stop at whatever light level you want.

But, that is one more reason NOT to use this as a target identification/illumination light. When I need a seriously bright light, this will not be it. Probably use a Surefire series light for that.

Control is ingenious. One knob, pulled, pushed, and/or rotated 90 degrees at a time, provides about 20 options of lighting. I can do it day/night, with work gloves on.

Color of light is easy to remember. Green-Red-White-Blue detents at 12-3-6-9 O'Clock respectively. Batteries standard Double-A, AA, of any quality you care to use.

If you really screw up, you can replace both batteries at Zero-Dark-30, or blindfolded at high noon ... if you can find the fresh ones! You can't lose the battery door, it is on an internal tether. You can orient the batteries, by feeling for the positive end of the new battery, and inserting each one oriented by feeling a bump on the outside of the flashlight.

This one is a keeper. I may ask that mine be put in my coffin when I go.

Vale Tudo/Wrestling Trunks Review

These are fantastic quality shorts that are as good/better than anything out there. They are double-layered, contain elastic cuffs/bands on the legs and waist, and feature a nice draw cord (unnecessary if you choose your size well). These trunks stay in place when doing ground work and have that fantastic Fedor look (much higher-riding shorts; most Vale Tudo shorts will end up like this anyway after rolling). The material is thick and will offer a long length of service. Great shorts, you won't be disappointed.

Full Face Head Gear Review

This particular head gear is one that I highly reccomend. I have had my jaw kicked so hard it would have been dislocated if it were not for the protection offered by this gear. I actually did get my jaw dislocated using another piece of head gear. Now this is no garuantee against dislocation, but it does give good support and protection.

#3700 Big Ed Pelican Flashlight Review

Where we come from this is the standard for firefighters flashlights.It is extremely bright which is what you need when entering a smoke filled structure.We have these on all our rigs.I purchased this one to keep attached to my turnout gear so I always have it with me.It is very rugged and extremely bright.It also comes with a lifetime warranty.I have not had any need to test that warranty so far.From what I have seen of the units on our rigs they take quite a beating and work just fine.They are a bit heavy with the 4 c cell batteries but compared to turnout gear and an SCBA I really don't notice it.

The sticker on the bottom of this thing says "American Designed - and very well made in China". Well, they ain't kidding.This is one hell of a nice piece of equipment.
For starters, the shipping weight is 42 lbs.This thing is built like a truck.They use heavy steel box-sections for the frame, and the bolt flanges are welded all the way around, not just tacked.The bolts arebeautifully plated, and they use nylon-collar lock nuts rather than a pile of split washers.
In case you are wondering from looking at the photo, yes, this thing is tall.The bars are at 53" off the floor.For me, its great since I'm 6'3".However, there is also a cross bar at just the right height to use as a step when mounting.They include strips of no-slip tape to put on it, which is great.
Another thing I was trying to figure out from the photo was how wide the grips are spaced.If your wondering, they have a center-to-center spacing of 21" at the front, and taper outward to 23.5" at the widest possible grip position.The bars themselves are nice and fat at 1.5" in diameter with tough rubber grips.This thing could definitely survive in a gym environment.
The plastic end-caps on the feet are very well made, but are really for carpet.If you have wood floors like me, you will want to put a pad under them.I plan to just buy some adhesive rubber bumpers from the hardware store.
The company apparently does not make a chin up attachment for this unit, which is a shame since the base is definitely stable enough to support one.I plan to bolt extensions on to the vertical members and attach one.I was planning to do this all along, which is the main reason I bought this instead of a lighter model.Call me obsessive, but I really wanted a dip station with full length bars, and all the combo dip/chin stations I saw had only little stub handles for the dip.
Assembly involves tightening just eight bolts.You will need a couple of 3/4" wrenches, or an adjustable wrench and a pair of pliers.
They also include a bottle of touch-up paint.If you're wondering, the paint color is sort of a dull metalic silver-gray.
Overall, these guys clearly take pride in their work.Its very well made with great attention to detail, and even though it's more expensive that some others here, I think its a bargain for the price.

#1495CC1 Pelican Laptop Case Review

This Pelican case is far more than I expected it to be.
I own a few different Pelican models for my cameras and such but this one is different.
I researched all the online sources I could drum up for spec's before I purchased
and even called Pelican and inquired a little more.
In none of the ad's, nor during my phone inquiry did they list everything mine came with.
First off, without the standard adjustable foam insert,I was curious as to the bump protection
this case would provide.
I was told there was a padded slip cover for the computer included.

Pro's:
Well it ends up this slip cover is all but bullet proof alone without the hard case.
Very thick and well build.
The lower section of the case is padded with a permanently attached liner.
There was also a zipper bag included that fits along side the slip cover in the lower portion of the case.
The zipper bag has elastic tie downs inside to keep your charger and cords in place and a net bag on the opposing side. All very usable.
In the upper section, the top pocket is large enough that it holds two of my external HD vaults and closes with no problem. Everything, down to the cell phone pocket, which happens to have a magnetic clasp, is built extra tuff.
Over-all it is quite a bit more streamline to carry than I first thought it might be.
This case will last a lifetime and was well worth the price charged.

This unit, in its description says that it has a good center spot, plus (simultaneously) good wide area coverage, rather than having to focus the head to get this, as in other units. And, I can 'attest' to this characteristic, as the spot is very bright (as well as having a 'decent' range of 'throw'), and the 'spill' (wide coverage around the center spot) is of very good quality...that is, it's bright as well as reasonably large in diameter. (I have another 3 C-Cell flashlight that has a bright center spot, but the 'spill' area around the center spot is dark). I haven't tested this unit's claim of being able to withstand being 'dropped', and still functioning, and I don't intend to test that purposefully.So, I can't vouch for that claim. But as far as brightness is concerned, I compared this unit's light against 'known' flashlights of a given amount of lumens (in the 140-180 lumen-range category), and this unit is definitely at the top end of that range of illumination.

I have been an umpire for 36 years and have for the past 25 years of that time umpired 14 and up with an ocassional 12 year old.I have used the West Vest for the last 11 years and feel very confident with it and rate it A+.The Champion Chest Protector is comparible in design with a lower profile.It is more comfortable than the West Vest but does not limit the feel of the impact of a baseball coming off the bat of an 18 year old.I could still feel some discomfort.I will stop short of not recommending it to anyone because it is a good protector.At my age maybe I am more sensitive than someone who is 24.I have not given up on it and will continue to use it for 12U.I will recommend it to young umpires just starting to do the plate in 9s, 10s, 11s, and even 12s.I will try using it sometimes and maybe I will adjust.I would give the Champion Protector a B- rating.

Earthlite used its brandname on the listing, but it is not on the product itself.The stool is comfortable enough and rolls fine on hard floors, but it is noisy.The first few times it was used it 'clunked' down multiple times to the lowest position.Now it 'clunks' down a notch or two when sat upon and 'clunks' up again when you rise.Perhaps that is just the nature of pneumatic seating, but not ideal for a tranquil Reiki session.
Plus once together it would not come apart...so no way to return it.
If you don't mind dropping down a noisy notch when you sit, this would be fine.Otherwise keep shopping.

Thule Pro 339 Ladder Tilt Review

Do Not Buy the Thule 339 Ladder Tilt!

If you have a small pickup truck and are yourself tall and very strong, you may have a relatively easy time struggling with this poorly engineered product.If you're not tall and strong, and have a large truck or van, make sure you keep the packaging so you can return the 339 when you realize the solution it isn't.The manufacturing quality is good, however one unit hangs up and one of the plastic ratchet straps also hangs when releasing, I have white lithium grease all over the underside of the 339 tilts making them barely useable at all.The 329 Ladder Lift is better although it's a struggle also.The reason I bought Thule was on the seemingly apparent quality, and I needed something `not white or black' like the competitor's products.With my green Ford E-150 I would still buy the Thule 332 Rack and 329 Ladder Lift but I would never again buy or recommend a Thule 339 Ladder Tilt!I based my decision to buy the 339 partially on incorrect information given by Thule's sales support and because the 339 is less costly than the 329 Ladder Lift.Too bad for me, I saved a dollar and have a piece of crap to show for it.Worst part is I have to live with it and its very ugly to use.If I had a good camera I'd post a YouTube video of the loading and unloading battle with the 339 and no one would consider it further.Yes, I saw the demo video posted out there with the editing and little truck and lightweight ladder, I assure you that's not what you'll experience.Good luck to buyers of the Thule 339 Ladder Tilt!

It is item #7995 on that site for $15.Make sure you purchase that item as well because it would suck to need to use the cell charger and not be able to. I am not sure why it didn't come with the item to begin with. Other than that, I think I will be happy in an emergency once the product does arrive. Hope this helps.

This flashlight works great. The piggyback charger charges the batteries in about 2.5 hours just like it was stated. This light is bright but I chose this because of the xenon bulb which gives it a more natural color light but if you are looking for brightness led is the way to go. Overall a great flashlight.

Streamlight Holsters & Carrying Accessories Nylon Holster Open Ended Md: 75927. Review

I got this holster for my new streamlight stinger led, to keep it safe on my belt, and to cover it when not in use. It works well in that respect. The top of the holster rides high, but that is a minor thing.

It will take a couple of days for the snap to wear in, mine wouldn't button at all for about 2-3 days. It would un button itself, but after a couple of weeks, it works just fine.

I thought the value was a bit low for $17. But you may not.
