This is my first review at Amazon.com, but I do take my time on my reviews so other consumers can have an idea of what they are buying.We all understand it is somewhat difficult to shop online because you dont have an idea of how good the quality of the product it is with just pictures as your guide, unless you know the brand.Even the, it is still "iffy".I rated this product 4 stars as "good", but not "great" or "excellent" as those found in 5 stars.And to be fair, I've taken some time with the chips of 2 days to let some of the exitement out of my system to give it a proper review.Please also know that this is my first Poker set, but I've been to casinos several times in my life.
Lets start with the shipping and packaging.I purchased this product on March 5th and my recieve date was 11th - 15th.I recieved this product on the 9th, 2 days faster than the ETA.The packaging was decent in quality with styrofoam molds to keep it secure and keep it from damage (who knows how they handle packages at UPS or FedEx).Shipping price was a little steep in my opinion, but it is heavy, so I can'nt gripe much there.
The case.Well, if you do your research before you buy the product, you will see that most of peoples negativity is almost always towards the case.And in this case, it does not disappoint; what you've read was true.The case itself is not full aluminum, and majorly plastic.the only metal about it are the slim frames to make up the case, and thin and slim brackets to hold them together.The walls of the case all around is plastic.It might look like aluminum in picture with its gray color, but it is not.With its heavy weight of contents inside, I feel very inconfident of how long the handle will last, let alone the case.I asked my gf to bring me the case one time and to her reply while bringing me the case was "man, it feels like its about to break!".The foam inside from the lid of the case has also fallen off.I'm gonna buy some glue later on today to keep it from falling off again.
The accessories.Dice, poker dice, buttons, and a complimentary chip keychain are all nice, and in great condition.The dealer button is nice and large, while the other button such as small and big blind button are smaller in size.
The deck of cards.It comes with 4 deck of cards which is nice in my opinion, but the quality is the poorest you can find.I would have rather have two or maybe even just one good deck of card instead of these cardboard decks.They are easy to bend, and in jsut a few shuffles, it feels like they've been used hundreds of times.I went and bought two of bicycle pros to replace these decks.I still keep them in hand just in case I have careless friends over.
And the meat of it all, the POKER CHIPS!Well, where to start?These are nice chips and I love them, but dont get me wrong there are a couple details that makes you think otherwise at time.Let me start with a major one which are the stickers on a few of them.They are very unaligned.Some sticker are so off that it even hits the edge of the chip.It doesn't stack well if the stickers are off, so I got a knife and peeled it carefully and place it back in the center where it needs to be.Thankfully, the stickers are plastic or laminated paper, so it didnt tear in the process.
Another detail that might bother you is the rough edges on some of the chips.I believe the rough edges are from the press or mold in the production of the chips.Some are easily removed by your fingernail, but some are kind of difficult.I got a knife to scrape and polish some of the "burrs" off the chips.It was easy to do, but time consuming.
Other than those couple of detail, the great part about the chips is the fact that they are clay, and they do stack well.I've managed to stack over 130 chips in one stack.But I have to admit, it was rather wobbley at that height.Nonetheless, you will have no problem staking it over 50 chips high.It has a nice feel and weight to them, and the chips really look nice.The great part about it is the denomination of them although I would've prefered to have a $50 denonimation also.
I know that most of this review is somewhat negative, but why did I give this product a 4 star, you might ask?Well, it is the quantity and quality of what you paid for.Yes, this is not the best out there, but it is the best you can get for the price.$40.00 for a nice poker set for home use is unbeatable, and this will last you quite sometime if you take care of it.As for the case, I dont know so much.
Overall, I'm very satisfied with my purchase, and I'm loving it so far!
